Lindsay’s tips to improve skin renewal and youthfulness

Our Head Spa Therapist Lindsay shares her knowledge and tips about how to improve the youthfulness of your skin and overall vitality in the mind and body…

“The skin is a dead giveaway when both external stimuli and your emotions and biochemistry from within show up.  For instance if you were to binge or even eat in a way that was less than optimal (all of us do from time to time) your skin will show it.

When the body is a bit toxic, skin can become puffy, jowly, lined and lacklustre. When we are tired, skin loses its translucency and its surface becomes uneven.  If your skin has a tendency to oiliness, this can get worse. If it leans toward the dry, it can come to look and feel like that of a crocodile. As your body goes, so goes your skin.

So what can we do to help? Well we need to consider and be mindful about what we put in our bodies and what we put on our skin. Every little bit helps in the unraveling process to eliminate any accumulation of toxins. Discover these key elements for renewal, adapted from ‘Skin Revolution’ by Leslie Kenton…

Why water? Water detoxifies skin and increases its bioenergy and radiance, so be sure to keep a bottle of water with you throughout the day. Ironically water is essential in relieving skin puffiness. Puffiness comes because your skin retains water when it is attempting to dilute any toxicity present.  Toxic skin is poor skin – it has poor colour, texture and form. Drinking water helps clear it.

Few of us get enough good quality protein. In part this is because too many people – especially woman – avoid protein foods, munching on carbohydrates instead. Protein is essential for strong healthy collagen and the formation of new cell walls.

Eating bright coloured low glycaemic fruits and vegetables every day enhances skin metabolism and makes it look and feel more youthful. It will also supply your skin with optimal levels of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.

Coffee is a super villain when it comes to skin. Much as we love it, we need to be mindful about how much we drink. As well as triggering inflammation (which shows up on your face as dark circles, puffiness, fine lines, poor colour and highly reactive skin) it also raises blood sugar and disrupts insulin levels. To have great skin, insulin needs to be balanced.

In as many as three quarters of people living on a western diet the insulin/blood sugar balance has become distorted. This makes the body highly susceptible to early ageing.  Remember this: the way insulin behaves in your body is the single most important internal determinant as to how rapidly or how slowly your skin ages.

Having an excellent daily skin care routine using 100% natural skincare is one of the most important things you can do for your skin. It is the largest organ of the human body and needs caring for. I set out on a truth seeking journey as I wanted to know exactly what I was putting on my skin. There’s an app you can download called THINK DIRTY which offers unbiased product comparisons for personal and skincare products. It empowers and educates consumers about the potential toxic ingredients.

Here at The Greenbank’s spa treatment room we offer a tranquil space to escape to for some much needed and deserved you time. Both holistic and beauty treatments are available. I am an ambassador for Tropic Skincare – these beautiful products are freshly made in a beauty kitchen in Surrey. All products are 100% naturally derived, vegan and 100% cruelty-free, packed with the most nutritionally evolved plants found on the planet.

Tropic believe that plants and fruits that flourish in challenging tropical climates are the most nutritious and beneficial for the skin. The ingredients are sustainably sourced from Polynesia, Australia and many more exotic tropical regions brimming with powerful botanical actives.

Good Skin Day is one of my favourite Tropic products. Think aromas of coconut, pear, mango, papaya and Australian lime pearl, the Good Skin Day is a restorative serum that resurfaces the top layer of skin to reveal a brighter, more youthful complexion overnight. For those with dull, rough, uneven skin and large pores, or if you’re just looking to fight the signs of ageing, this product is for anyone who wants to enjoy the results of a chemical peel without the harsh chemicals.

Always use a SPF product following the use of your Good Skin Day serum. As the serum resurfaces the top layer of skin, your natural sun protection is lowered for a short time until the cells regenerate, which is why wearing a SPF product (such as your Tinted Skin Shade or Pure Effects Beauty Booster) is important.

If you would like to experience Tropic Skincare or are considering changing to a natural skincare regime, why not book in for a Tropic Super Deluxe Facial – 90 minutes of total relaxation to include a facial with a relaxing back, neck and shoulder massage, plus either a choice of a soothing foot massage or scalp massage?
