Make a splash in 2015 – New Year in Falmouth

So much preparation can be put into New Years Eve that January 1st is often left to waste; and with our unique position at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean it would be a shame not to embrace the water come the first light of 2015.

Here’s our guide on making the most of New Years Day in and around the Falmouth coast on January 1st:

New Year’s Day Swim

Some people clean their house through and through in order to feel fresh and bright for the New Year, in Falmouth some have other ideas.

A refreshing, liberating swim at Gyllyngvase Beach on a bright January morning is exactly what some need to get in the frame of mind of taking the New Year by the horns and seizing the opportunities 2015 will bring.

Please note, in order to remain authentic to this tradition, wetsuits are strictly forbidden!

Bring in New Year on a Board

Still on a nautical note, you’ll more often than not see silhouettes of die-hard surfers lining up past the break of Falmouth’s South Coast waves; why not join them next year?

You’ll be glad to know that wetsuits are more than welcome ‘out back’, but for those not quite confident enough to face the larger waves, the white water will be more than enough to earn your surfing stripes.

Falmouth & Porthtowan Surf School are renowned for excellent lessons and travel to beaches across the county so you can get the best learner waves – perfect for sharpening your skills ready for a New Year’s Day dip!

New Year’s Day, New Year’s Dogs

With our dog friendly rooms, there’s no excuse not to bring the entire family for a break during the New Year celebration; and with dog restrictions lifted on Cornwall’s sands in the winter months a walk along Gyllyngvase, Swanpool and Maenporth beaches is always a superb idea.

A coastal clamber around our headland or an exploration of Pendennis Castle is just the thing to blow away any cobwebs of 2014 and breathe in the clear air of a New Year in Cornwall.

This is just a snippet of what’s on offer on New Year’s Day in Falmouth, but what about the night before? Our New Year House Party is just the ticket for those wanting a touch of class to proceedings without going too far from home.

Conversely, a break in Falmouth over the New Year period is a remarkable experience for those travelling from out-of-county, and the Greenbank is an excellent opportunity to celebrate in style.

See you on New Year’s Eve!
