Real Brides in the Riverbank: Joanne and James
A flip of a coin, a proposal in Jo’s home town and a dream day by the water’s edge…
Good friends for years, Joanne and James left the fate of their relationship to a flip of a coin! James got down on one knee in Joanne’s hometown of Birmingham to pop the question. After a look around the Greenbank Hotel they both fell in love instantly with our waterside venue. We spoke to Joanne and James, fresh back from honeymoon, about their big day…
Why did you choose the Greenbank Hotel as the venue for your big day?
We wanted to get married somewhere in Falmouth that would allow us to have amazing pictures and most importantly we wanted to get married somewhere that allowed us to make the day ours, that wasn’t traditional and didn’t force us to stick to a rigid menu and plan. James grew up in Falmouth and we both love it here. The Greenbank was the second venue we looked round and we totally fell in love instantly!
Tell us about your colour scheme.
Our colour scheme was royal blue and baby blue mixed together. We didn’t really have a theme but there was a bit of sparkle running throughout. We had alternate chair covers and favors that matched the colours, and candles on the centerpieces that made it feel more intimate especially during the evening once it had gotten dark.
What was on the menu?
Our guests chose from delicious Posh Burger and Chips or Fish and Chips. Dessert was Chocolate Orange Cheesecake or Eton Mess. In the evening we had a hog roast with cake and a sweetie bar.
Tell us about the speeches.
The speeches were amazing. My dad, James and the best man Marc all had beautiful speeches. I can’t even explain how they made me feel.
What was the highlight of your big day?
The highlight of the day for us was probably sitting down for the meal in the Riverbank Suite. It was the first chance we got to take a look at everyone who was there, and it all sank in.
What made the Greenbank so special?
Sophie and her team couldn’t do enough and nothing was too much trouble. They were there from the morning until the first dance; they were all so helpful and made our dreams come true. Everything was taken care of, leaving us to enjoy our day. The location is just amazing, everyone who attended has commented on the amazing hotel, staff and the waterside location.
What advice would you give to couples planning their big day?
Our one tip would be, do what you want to do, stick to your guns and have the wedding you want and make sure you take time to look around and enjoy your day.
