Throughout August, The Greenbank will be celebrating National Wellness Month. Focusing on self-care, managing stress and promoting healthy routines are important for staying well. Create wholesome habits in your lifestyle all month long and see how much better you feel! Here we speak with our spa therapist Lindsay on how to maximise on your wellness this year…

What is wellness?

It’s all about making the active choices that create a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle. There are eight dimensions to wellness: emotional, environment, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social and spiritual. You can really go into detail to find the ins and outs of wellness, but I would say that as long as you feel uplifted and positive, then you can’t go wrong.


How do you achieve wellness?

You need to take time out to nourish yourself. Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people is the first step to creating a positive lifestyle. Eat well, sleep well and exercise are also key factors to achieving wellness. Know your values, live your values and find things that give you a sense of purpose.


What are your top tips to achieve wellness?

The first tip would be to change your food choices. Opt in for more healthy options. Include super foods and always drink lots of water. Then my next tip is to always allow yourself to have enough sleep every night. Struggling to sleep? Meditation or yoga can really help to rest the mind to prepare you for a new day. And my final tip? Give yourself permission to say no to things. Sometimes it’s good to miss out on a hectic schedule to allow your mind and body to rest.

What treatment would you recommend for those trying to achieve wellness?

Well it’s got to be the full body massage. We create a blend of aromatherapy oils that we use in our treatments, which really sooth the body resulting in full relaxation mode. Our full massage covers the head, neck and shoulders, lower back, legs, arms and feet. Your circulation is stimulated and muscle tension alleviated for a fuller sense of well-being.


Why is it so important to look after yourself?

It’s just as important to look after our minds as it is our bodies – they go hand in hand. When you don’t look after yourself, you become sluggish throughout the day, making it more difficult to get yourself out of the hole. Try to keep on top of your wellness. The more you do to promote a positive lifestyle, the better you’ll feel.


Which facial would you recommend?

We have a great facial at the moment called the Tropic Super Deluxe facial. With an added boost of super vitamins, this Tropic facial is suitable for all skin types – even the most sensitive. For an hour and thirty minutes, this facial also incorporates a back, neck and shoulder massage. Perfect for those who haven’t experienced a massage before.

Which massage would you recommend?

It’s tricky to recommend just one! All of our massage treatments are beneficial in many ways and they all create a sense of well-being.


What treatment is the most indulgent?

It would have to be the Oriental Face Massage, which is only £40 for 45 minutes. This face massage is a deeply relaxing treatment, helping to reduce stress and rejuvenate the skin. It uses a combination of a natural face-lift massage, Indian face massage, Japanese face massage and Tibetan face massage. It tones the muscles, eases tension, smooths away fine lines, increases elasticity and releases toxins. It’s extremely relaxing and perfect for those that want to treat themselves.

How often would you recommend a treatment?

To truly feel the benefits of our treatments, I would recommend visiting us at least once a month or every six weeks depending on your requirements.
