What To Do in Cornwall Over The Summer Holidays

Class is dismissed! The school summer holidays are finally here, meaning six weeks of fun awaits. If you’re spending the summer holidays in Cornwall you’ll be spoiled for choice on activities and events throughout the county. From strawberry picking, open air cinema showings and boat trips to visits to the circus, Cornwall has something for all ages.


15th july – 30th august: PIRATE SCHOOL AT THE NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM, falmouth

Where: 20 minute walk from The Greenbank

Enroll your little ones in The National Maritime Museum’s Pirate School this summer. They can meet new shipmates, learn how to dress and act like a real pirate, whilst taking part in interactive activities including sea shanty singing, treasure hunting and story-telling. There will be live performances that’ll have you yelling “shiver me timbers!”, as the gruesome side of a pirate’s life are revealed. This is a free event included in the general admission to the museum.


26th july – 3rd september: PICK YOUR OWN AT TREVASKIS FARM, hayle

Where: 35 minute drive from The Greenbank

Choose from locally grown fruit and vegetables and enjoy a fun family day out picking fresh produce at Trevaskis Farm. With free entry to the farm, you only have to pay for what you pick! From loganberries to gooseberries, apples to beans, peas, raspberries, and not forgetting strawberries,­ you’re spoiled for choice. It’s a great activity to get the kids outdoors and excited about fruit and veg.


26th july – 3rd september: PARADISE PARK’S SUMMER OF PARROTS, hayle

Where: 40 minute drive from The Greenbank

A colourful colony of parrots have landed in Paradise Park this summer. From rare blue-throated and great green macaws to citron-crested cockatoos and sun conures, learn all about these bright and beautiful birds and make friends with the vibrant-feathered flock.


29th July – 4th September: SUMMER ON ST MICHAEL’S MOUNT, Marazion

Where: 50 minute drive from The Greenbank

Summer on St Michael’s Mount is all about getting creative on Marazion’s famous landmark. These art and craft events are inspired by stories and tales of the mysterious Mount, celebrating the history of one of Cornwall’s most iconic attractions. Play games and craft your own treasure to take home. Make sure you check out the tide times before heading over. You might be lucky enough to use the hidden pathway, only uncovered in low tide.


1st – 31st august: TATE CREATE CRAZY COSTUMES, st ives

Where: 1 hour drive from The Greenbank

At Tate in St Ives, get involved in the crazy costumes workshops throughout August. Inspired by the colourful canvases of Lebanese artist Huguette Caland’s first UK museum solo exhibition, let loose on different materials to create colourful costumes. This is dressing up with a difference, and a wonderful way to spend the summer holidays whilst seeing a beautiful seaside town in Cornwall.


1st – 22nd august: OPEN AIR CINEMA AT PENDENNIS CASTLE, falmouth

Where: 10 minute drive from The Greenbank

Watch must-see films in the historic setting of Pendennis Castle grounds in Falmouth. An open air cinema will be showing a range of movies throughout August. Get the popcorn ready and embrace the fresh air as you relax in front of the big screen.

Cornwall Comic Con and Gaming Festival is coming to Truro in August. The world-famous convention is a calendar highlight for fans of comics, pop culture, fictional characters and gaming. Celebrate with cosplay competitions, exhibitions, collectors stalls and more!


7th – 28th august: FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR AT FLAMBARDS, helston

Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank

Flambards is a great day out for the whole family. During the summer holidays, unleash your inner thrill-seeker and experience all the rides and attractions during the day. Let the adrenaline rush wear off and stay for the evening to enjoy the fireworks spectacular, alongside live performances from talented tribute acts.


7th – 18th august: CIRCUS FUNTASIA, helston

Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank

Prepare to be amazed at Circus Funtasia. With all the dazzling acts you’d expect to discover at a trip to the circus, make sure you catch the extravaganza in the middle of August Perfect for entertaining the kids and the grown-ups too!
