What’s On in April 2018: Cornwall’s Diary

April is full to the brim with events in Cornwall. Discover our diary round-up here – from foodie festivals and folk music, to gardens, gin and Easter treats, there’s something for all the family to enjoy.

30th March – 15th April: Pirate School, National Maritime Museum, falmouth

Where: 5 minutes from The Greenbank

Join the Maritime Museum for their pirate school during this Easter holiday. Learn the ropes with interactive shows by Rattlebox Theatre, meet two of the toughest pirates around and find out about the facts and fictions behind real-life pirates of today! With maps leading to hidden treasure and stations to make your own parrot, it promises plenty of fun filled hours for all the family to enjoy.

Enjoy hunting around the Paradise Park grounds, spotting clues along the way. Complete the trail, find the answers to the questions and claim your complimentary treat. And why not stay to catch up with all your favourite birds and animals? The ‘Eagles of Paradise’ display will give adventurers the chance to get up close with macaws, owls and even eagles flying just about your heads.

31st March – 8th April: Easter Music Festival, St Endellion

Where: 1 hour and 10 minutes from the hotel

Presenting nine concerts of classical music over nine days, St Endellion Easter Festival includes musicians and singers both amateur and professional. The programme will include Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony and a wide range of other choral and orchestral music.

3rd – 14th April: The Railway Children, The Minack Theatre

Where: 1 hour from The Greenbank

Don’t miss the well-loved and iconic family story performed on Cornwall’s world famous stage this April. A heart-warming tale of an Edwardian family whose lives are turned upside down following the mysterious disappearance of their father, The Railway Children is a glorious theatrical experience for all ages, full of warmth, intrigue, adventure and joy.

7th – 8th April: Cornwall Spring Flower Show, boconnoc

Where: 1 hour from us

Named by The Sunday Telegraph as one of the best flower shows to visit in the UK, this celebration of Cornwall’s rich garden heritage is the South West’s first major horticultural showcase of the year. The two-day event takes place in the magnificent grounds of Boconnoc House, an 18th century stately home owned by the Fortescue family. It features show gardens, horticultural trade stands and competitive classes.

13th April: The Big Spring Beach Clean, Greenbank Beach, falmouth

Where: right on our doorstep!

2017 was the biggest year for Surfers Against Sewage beach cleans with 1,400 beach cleans taking place across the UK, removing 97 tonnes of marine plastic pollution from our coastline. But sadly, after a winter of storms, our beaches need our help again. Meeting at The Working Boat, the Greenbank beach needs your helping hands. Join us from 11am-1pm as part of the biggest ‘Big Spring Beach Clean’ ever! 15th April: Boscastle Walking Week

Where: 1 hour and 30 minutes from The Greenbank

Explore the beautiful countryside around the village of Boscastle with a mix of walks for all ages, abilities and interests so everyone can take part. You could join one of the experienced local guides on a ramble to waterfalls or steep climbs to Cornwall’s highest coastal cliff top, or meander along the country lanes and pathways that would have been familiar to the writer Thomas Hardy, whose life-changing visit to Boscastle produced poetry regarded by many as amongst the finest in the English language.


20th– 22nd April: Porthleven Food Festival

Where: 30 minutes from us

Prepare for a weekend full of Cornish food, beer, bands and entertainment in the idyllic town of Porthleven. With over 90 food and craft stalls surrounding the harbour and all day cookery demos from some of the UK’s biggest names, this weekend is not to be missed. The party atmosphere is alive from start to finish, with everything from classic and country to rock and reggae.

21st April: Gin and Prosecco Festival, St Ives

Where: 50 minutes from the hotel

This boutique event of artisan gin and prosecco in a garden party atmosphere rolls into St Ives this April. Your ticket will include sample vouchers, a branded gin glass to take home, a guide to the tipples on display plus so much more! So if you enjoy exploring new flavours as well as the odd G&T or two, this festival is for you.

2st – 22nd April: Tregothnan Charity Garden Opening, nEar truro

Where: 40 minutes from The Greenbank

The historic botanical garden at Tregothnan, famous across the world for pioneering British tea, is open for one weekend each year. Enjoy Tregothnan’s unequalled diversity of trees, botanical and rare collections, sweeping vistas and peaceful secluded groves on the banks of the beautiful river Fal. The sheer scale of the garden – over 100 acres – means that there will be plenty of peace.

26th April: Gin Club: Salcombe Gin, the water’s edge, falmouth

Gin lovers unite! On 26th April we will be hosting our Gin Club where we’ll be joined by Salcombe Gin. Tom will be telling us about the distillery based on the Devon coast and samples of their award-winning products will be ready to try. We will also be providing two homemade gin cocktails, a selection of nibbles, and a G&T on arrival. Tickets are £25 per person and must be pre-booked by calling 01326 312440.
