What’s on in Cornwall this May
Workshops, water sports, music and art exhibitions will be carrying the entertainment in Cornwall this month. As warmer days are upon us, there is all the more reason to be spending your time outside and dipping your toes into what our region has to offer. We’ve put together this guide to help you make the most out of Spring on our coast line.
Throughout spring and summer: Caves & Shipwreck kayak adventures, gylly beach, falmouth
Where: 7 minute drive from The Greenbank
Embark on an adventure around Falmouth’s coastline. The exhilarating tour takes you into secret caves, rocky gullies, and over submerged reefs. Throughout the tour you’re ensured to see lots of costal creatures, from schooling fish to laid back seals, you’re guaranteed to make some seafaring friends. To make the tour even more memorable, you’ll get to explore a long-forgotten shipwreck hidden just a few metres off Falmouth Bay. Every adventure starts with training to help participants maximize their time on the waters. With the days getting sunnier, this is the perfect start to some Easter holiday water fun. 1st – 19th April: Calvino nights , minack theatre, porthcurno
Where: 1 hour 7 minute drive from The Greenbank
For children and adults alike, join the marvelous Mr Calvino and his motley troupe of taletellers, song-makers and fire-raisers for an unforgettable ride at the Minack Theatre. Joyous revilement is guaranteed to echo throughout the stands whilst happy thieves, very clever peas and daft billionaires cease to entertain. 6th – 8th May: English national surfing championships, watergate bay, newquay
Where: 52 minute drive from The Greenbank
The English National Surf Championships is back and this year it’s once again hosted on the amazing Watergate Bay in Newquay. Over 180 surfers have entered the battle this year – bound to have spectators entertained at the shoreline. The champion’s titles are in 20 different divisions, from under 12s through to the 45+ and the competition is set to bring surfers together, from all over the country. The weekend of back to back heats proves unique to Cornwall and is a must see event – regardless of your surfing abilities the weekend will have you lapping up the excitement. 8th may: Dylan moran – we got this, hall for cornwall, truro
Where: 23 minute drive from The Greenbank
“How can it be you have spent a whole ten minutes staring at a banana?” We Got This is the brand new show from BAFTA winning comedian Dylan Moran. Starring in TV shows and films such Black Books, Notting Hill and Shaun of the Dead, Dylan Moran is making his Cornish debut in the historic Hall for Cornwall and Truro. Moran’s show reduces life to four ages – child, failure, old and dead. He takes us through his ‘sick of it all’ journey through life using hilariously dark humour.

1st – 4th may: Visions of nature art exhibition, trebah gardens, mawnan smith
Where: 16 minute drive from The Greenbank
Louise Boulton shows her botanical creations in the beautiful Trebah Gardens. With spring having settled upon us, Louise rejoices at the opportunity to exhibit her artworks, fresh of life and the joys of spring / summer. She marvels at the beauty found within nature and gets thrills and excitement to capture it within her paintings and share with others. Trebah garden is the perfect place to have Louise’s work displayed, immersing in nature at every corner. 13th May: Wild colours cornwall – an introduction to natural dye and shibori, potager garden, constantine
Where: 14 minute drive from The Greenbank
Explore the hidden plants of Cornwall which produce beautiful dyes. Practice the methods within one of Falmouth’s most beloved gardens. The workshop will be based in Potager’s breath-taking studio, foraging in the gardens beforehand. You’ll learn to explore non toxic dye techniques, extracting colours from flowers, barks and leaves and end up leaving the workshop with your own shibori dyed silk. This unique experience is perfect for anyone wanting to gain more knowledge about sustainable textile creation, no matter the previous skill level. To join the workshop you can find spaces here.
19th May: Feet, the cornish bank, falmouth
Where: 14 minute walk from The Greenbank
The Coventry Britpop band are coming to Falmouth. FEET will be playing at boasted about new venue – The Cornish Bank. The venue heavily focusses on independent artists and sourcing produce from small Cornish breweries and distilleries. This matched with the bands haphazardness of creating some of the most vibrant, energetic shows out there – the gig is not to be missed. With influences coming from success story band IDLES and legends such as Pulp, the show is destined to be a hit. You can buy tickets here.
27th may: sundowner session, the greenbank hotel, falmouth

Make your Friday plans even more special by joining us for our Sundowner Session in our harbourside bar and lounge. This month we will be joined by the talented Tom Baker, who will be playing dreamy acoustic tunes inspired by folk and soul. From 7pm until 10pm, sip your tipples of choice while relaxing harbourside listening to the tunes of Cornwall’s finest homegrown talents. The Sundowner Sessions also coincide with The Cocktail Club which means two for £10 cocktails all evening. Friday plans don’t get better than that.
25th may- 5th June: mini monsters of the not so deep, the national maritime musuem, falmouth
Where: 19 minute walk from The Greenbank
Discover mini monsters of the deep this spring. The Rock Pool Project and National Maritime Museum are putting together an exhibition to meet and greet all of our Cornish critters. With mobile rock pools children will be taught about the mini monsters and how to identify the curious creatures in the wild. After the experience you’ll get the chance to follow the trail across Falmouth’s seafront, dive into nooks and crannies across the shoreline, putting that rock pooling knowledge to the test.
