Christmas is creeping up on us and this month is abuzz with merriment. Immerse yourself in the flavours, sights and scents of the festive season at one of our top ten to-do events – from theatre and fairs, to carols, cakes and Christmas lights…
1ST-4TH DECEMBER: PADSTOW CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL
Where: one hour drive from us
Get the festive spirit flowing at Padstow Christmas Festival. This celebration combines celebrity chefs, local food producers and talented crafts-folk in a captivating waterside setting. Get amongst their Santa fun run, admire the fireworks, or pull up a pew and watch live music in the bandstand.
THROUGHOUT DECEMBER: CHRISTMAS AT THE EDEN PROJECT
Where: 50 minute drive from the hotel
Christmas is a magical time to visit the Eden Project. From twilight the site is beautifully lit, the glistening ice rink is open, Father Christmas will be popping in, and their Festival of Light and Sound will be a sight to behold. In the Mediterranean biome you’ll be able to listen to carols and wonderful winter tales told by Eden’s storytellers.
3RD-4TH DECEMBER: NADELIK – A CORNISH CHRISTMAS, PENDENNIS CASTLE, FALMOUTH
Where: 10 minute drive from us
Celebrate Christmas the Cornish way – with fireside tales, folklore, carols, dancing and festive stalls thrown in for good measure. Santa will be taking up residence in the Castle’s Keep, and there will be oodles of traditional Cornish activities to get involved in. And did we mention the mince pies?
3RD-4TH DECEMBER: THE WORKING BOAT EVENTS, FALMOUTH
Where: underneath the hotel
The perfect weekend in. On Saturday 3rd from 8pm, we will be welcoming Will Keating from The Oggymen for a lively night of Cornish and Celtic folk. Then on Sunday 4th from 7.30pm, join us for our free pub quiz (and we’ll throw in the prizes!)
6TH-31ST DECEMBER: JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, HALL FOR CORNWALL, TRURO
Where: 25 minute drive from The Greenbank
This feel-good panto is set deep in the heart of Kernow, where the village is being terrorised by the legendary giant Cormoran. Starring Cornwall’s very own Kernow King, and the much loved Granville Saxton, this home grown Christmas adventure is perfect for the whole family.
9TH-30TH DECEMBER: ROGUE THEATRE’S WINTER WOOD, TEHIDY WOODS
Where: 35 minute drive from us
Don’t miss this theatrical festive adventure through the beautiful trees of Tehidy Woods. Created by Cornwall’s award-winning Rogue Theatre, Winter Wood is an adventure for families and those who still believe in magic. The show will include live music, enchanting stories, winter wonders, hot chocolate, sparkly face painting and the chance to make your own traditional winter decoration to take home.
10TH-11TH DECEMBER: THE LOST GARDENS OF HELIGAN CHRISTMAS FAIR, ST AUSTELL
Where: 45 minute drive from the hotel
This inaugural fair will showcase over seventy local artisans, creators, producers and makers who will be trading under a canopy of festive joy. The event is just £1 for local pass holders and £2 for everyone else – including garden entry.
THROUGHOUT DECEMBER: CORNISH CHRISTMAS MARKETS
There are plenty of Christmas markets in Cornwall to head to this year, for a glass or two of warm mulled wine and to stock up on perfect presents to suit all pockets. Feel the full magic of the festive season with a trip to one of our favourites:
The Made in Cornwall Christmas Fair runs from 30th November until 4th December on Lemon Quay in Truro. Just under a hundred of the finest local crafters, artists and food and drink producers will exhibit at this popular annual fair.
Flambards Christmas Craft Fayre in Helston will be held on 3rd – 4th December. Admire the stalls of over fifty designer-makers and spot the big man himself, along with his gang of elves.
Just down the road from us, Falmouth’s Outlaw Christmas Market is on the Moor on 8th – 10th December. Browse round the beautifully festive marquee full to the brim with music, street food, warming tipples and ideal gifts. If you can’t make this one, there will also be late night shopping in Falmouth every Thursday from 1st December.
16TH–30TH DECEMBER: MIRACLE THEATRE’S CINDERELLA, PRINCESS PAVILION, FALMOUTH
Where: 25 minute walk from The Greenbank
Miracle Theatre has treat in store for us this Christmas – a brand new panto. Experience the undiluted joy of pantomime in its heyday of 150 years ago, complete with revealing backstage glimpses! A rare and genuine pleasure suitable for all.
17TH DECEMBER–7TH JANUARY: MOUSEHOLE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Where: One hour drive from the hotel
This is a best-loved tradition amongst The Greenbank team. Mousehole’s famous habour lights have been running since 1963 and have since grown to a huge spectacle. Marvel at the floating displays in the harbour and follow the winding strings of lanterns through the cobbled streets.
