Christmas is creeping up on us and this month is abuzz with merriment. Immerse yourself in the flavours, sights and scents of the festive season – from theatre and festivals, to carols, crafts and Christmas lights. Explore our list of what’s on in December in Cornwall here…
THROUGHOUT DECEMBER: winter festival, EDEN PROJECT, st austell
Where: 50 minute drive from the hotel
Christmas is a magical time to visit the Eden Project. From twilight the site is beautifully lit, the glistening ice rink is open, Father Christmas will be popping in, and their Festival of Light and Sound will be a sight to behold. In the Mediterranean biome you’ll be able to listen to carols and wonderful winter tales told by Eden’s storytellers.
1st – 2nd December: Flambards Christmas Fayre, helston
Where: 25 minute drive from The Greenbank
Brimming with local gifts and goodies, Flambards once again hosts its wonderful Christmas Fayre, which combines the magic of Christmas with the perfect opportunity to choose some great gifts and treats. Stalls can be found in various venues within the park and with live music from Helston Town Band, this is a festive event you surely do not want to miss.
6th – 9TH DECEMBER: PADSTOW CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL, padstow
Where: one hour drive from us
Get the festive spirit flowing at Padstow Christmas Festival. This celebration combines celebrity chefs, local food producers and talented crafts-folk in a captivating waterside setting. Get amongst their Santa fun run, admire the fireworks, or pull up a pew and watch live music in the bandstand.
7TH – 31st DECEMBER: miracle theatre’s Aladdin, PRINCESS PAVILION, FALMOUTH
Where: 25 minute walk from The Greenbank
Miracle Theatre breathe a new life into an all time favourite, sharing their unique interpretation of the oriental fairy-tale Aladdin. Those who witness these rare soirées have spoken of being swept away by eccentric singing, exotic dancing, breath-taking magical effects and being moved to tears of laughter. Advanced bookings are highly recommended, as previous productions have sold out early.
8th – 24th December: Santa trains, Lappa Valley Steam Railway
Where: 40 minutes from The Greenbank
Lappa Valley is offering a unique Christmas experience for the whole family this year, in which children will meet and receive a specially selected gift from Santa himself. All visitors can enjoy a magical festive steam train ride driven by Rudolph, ending at Santa’s grotto for the children as the adults enjoy a complimentary mince pie and mulled wine.
8TH – 30TH DECEMBER: ROGUE THEATRE’S WINTER WOOD, TEHIDY WOODS
Where: 30 minute drive from us
Don’t miss this theatrical festive adventure through the beautiful trees of Tehidy Woods. Created by Cornwall’s award-winning Rogue Theatre, Winter Wood is an adventure for those who still believe in magic. The show will include live music, enchanting stories, winter wonders, hot chocolate, sparkly face painting and the chance to make your own traditional winter decoration to take home.
12TH – 30TH DECEMBER: HELIGAN BY NIGHT, THE LOST GARDENS OF HELIGAN, ST AUSTELL
Where: 45 minute drive from the hotel
Experience the art of illumination as internationally renowned light artist Ulf Pedersen celebrates the magic of Heligan. Explore the historic after dark and revel in the incredible textures, colours and atmosphere, which bring light to the landscape. Booking is essential due to popularity with selected dates from 12th – 29th December.
12th – 20th december: the winter gift fayre, truro
Where: 20 minute drive from the hotel
Lose yourself in the magic of Christmas on Lemon Quay in Truro. With over 80 stallholders from local South West producers, you will be sure to find the perfect presents for your loved ones this year. You won’t be disappointed with what this Fayre has to offer – from luxury foods and award winning drinks, to perfect accessories and quality festive decorations.
14th – 23rd december: trelissick ILLUMINATED, near truro
Where: 20 minute drive from The Greenbank
This December, you can explore new pathways showered with light as a new illuminated route of Trelissick garden is revealed. Wrap up warm and wander amongst the trees as you hear the calm waters of the Helford river beside you. With free entry to the grounds, this is an experience that will be fun for all the family.
15th december: cornwall hospice care Santa fun run, Falmouth
Where: right on our doorstep!
The Santa Series for Cornwall Hospice Care is back. On Saturday 15th December, don your free Santa suit and run through the streets of Falmouth. After, you’ll be presented with your medal and a mince pie for all your hard work! Cornwall Hospice Care ask if all runners could raise just £20, which will on average, fund an hour of nursing care in their hospices.
15TH DECEMBER – 4TH JANUARY: MOUSEHOLE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Where: one hour drive from the hotel
This is a best-loved tradition amongst The Greenbank team. Mousehole’s famous habour lights have been running since 1963, which have since grown to a huge spectacle. Marvel at the floating displays in the harbour and follow the winding strings of lanterns through the cobbled streets. The lights will be on each evening from 5pm until 11pm, with a carol service on the 15th to commence the festivities.
20th december: a mini Christmas festival, the working boat

We certainly know how to do Christmas in Falmouth, so don’t miss The Working Boat’s first ever mini Christmas festival! Expect our favourite carols sang by local band ‘The All Good Things’, mulled tipples, wreath making and more. Our chefs will be creating a special festive menu, with the likes of homemade turkey and chorizo burgers, bacon baps, brie and cranberry wedges and lots of slow-cooked winter warmers to tempt you.
