THROUGHOUT JANUARY: PUP SEASON, CORNISH SEAL SANCTUARY, GWEEK

Where: 25 minute drive from The Greenbank
One of the great things to do in Cornwall in January is visit the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. Seal mating season begins in autumn, and as the time of year brings rougher seas and storms, lots of pups need recusing. Up to 60 seal pups are rehabilitated each year, until they are ready for release. Their ‘hospital’ and pools will be full during January, so it’s the perfect time to visit.

While hunting, Prince Siegfried spots a swan. As he takes aim to shoot, it turns into a beautiful woman, who informs him that she is a princess under the spell of an evil sorcerer. The spell can only be broken if a virgin prince swears eternal fidelity to her, or she must remain a swan forever.

The Nutcracker (20th – 21st January): After midnight on Christmas Eve, a Nutcracker comes to life and a magical journey begins. Tchaikovsky’s endearing familiar score performed by a live orchestra makes this an unmissable family treat. Tickets for each event are from £20.50.
