What’s on in July: Cornwall’s Diary

1st – 16th July: Lafrowda Festival, Penzance

Where: 55 minutes from The Greenbank

A community celebration of local heritage and a showcase for some of the finest artistic, theatrical and musical talent in the area. One of the highlights of the fortnight is Lafrowda Day (15th July) where there’ll be twelve hours of free entertainment to suit every taste – from hip hap to harmony, from folk to funk – as well as street performers, stalls and spectacular processions to top it all off.

5th – 8th July: Penzance Literary Festival

Where: 55 minute drive from us

The Penzance Literary Festival is a festival for everyone who enjoys words – the written word, the spoken word, the recited word and the sung word too. The four day festival is now in its seventh year, having grown to become a major event in the South West’s literary calendar. Enjoy writing workshops, readings, storytelling, talks, literary tours and more.

7th – 8th July: Rock Oyster Festival

Where: an hour drive from The Greenbank

Music, camping, tipples, and a whole lot of food. Fancy a yoga session, a tightrope lesson, or a didgeridoo workshop? It’s all go at Rock Oyster Festival! The site at Roskear Farm, near Wadebridge, is located right on the famous Camel trail, making it one of the few festivals that can be easily accessed on foot or by bike.

11th – 30th July: Wolf’s Child, WildWorks Theatre, Trelowarren estate

Where: 35 minutes from the hotel

This summer’s hotly anticipated WildWorks production, Wolf’s Child will be performed at Trelowarren Estate on the Lizard. The company, famed for telling beautiful and moving stories in unusual ways, are pioneers of landscape theatre. Wolf’s Child is a fairytale for adults and brave children – one not to miss this month.

ALL MONTH: Paddle board yoga sessions, Falmouth

Where: From our pontoons

Gylly Adventures are running stand up paddle board yoga sessions straight from our pontoons throughout the summer. Yoga fans can book onto a session which will be held on Fridays at 7pm and on Saturdays at 7am. SUP yoga can be whatever you want it to be – whether you’re looking for quiet meditation or a tough workout as the sun sets or rises across Falmouth harbour.

ALL MONTH: Miracle Theatre: The Third Policeman 

Where: open air locations around Cornwall

This summer, Miracle ventures into a world somewhere between Alice in Wonderland and the Marx Brothers, where the earth is not round but sausage-shaped, where eccentric policemen fall in love with bicycles and where you can visit eternity via a rickety lift. With dates all across Cornwall, check their website to find a show near you.

14th – 16th July: Tropical Pressure Festival, porthtowan

Where: 35 minutes from us

Celebrating the rich cultures of Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean on the cliffs of Cornwall, Tropical Pressure Festival brings a packed programme of live music, food, dance and culture to Porthtowan. The family friendly event, with camping in the Eco Park’s grounds overlooking the sea, will see the north Cornish coast come alive with the sounds, sights and flavours of three continents.

17th July: Stithians Agricultural Show

Where: 20 minutes from The Greenbank

Cornwall’s biggest one day agricultural show has been held annually since the early 1800s. The show originally started as a competition between local parishioners to see who could grow the best vegetables, raise the finest cattle and breed the greatest horses. Today the purpose built showground provides a full day out for the whole family.

22nd – 28th July: Charlestown Regatta Week

Where: 55 minute drive from us

Merriment in one of the most iconic villages in the county! Regatta week is an annual tradition bringing together the local community, residents and visitors alike. Head on over to enjoy a variety of live music, competitions, pasty demonstrations, raft races, watersports and classic favourites.

27th – 30th July: Zestifal, Falmouth

Where: right on our doorstep

Described as a celebration of a healthy outlook and lifestyle, this Falmouth festival will showcase a whole range of activities. So whether you want to try Pilates, paddle boarding, swimming, climbing, circus skills or cricket, there will be oodles of taster sessions for you to have a go at.
